Pre-Service 10-15-2017 - Singing Our Prayers

Did you ever notice there are songs about God and there are songs sung to God? A lot of the great older songs are about God or about aspects of the Christian faith. We have some classic ones like these:

Are you washed
In the blood
In the soul cleansing blood
of the Lamb?

And He walks with me
And He talks with me
And He tells me I am His own

Amazing grace
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me

But a trend in modern worship is to sing to God. You could think of it as singing your prayers.

Spirit lead me
Where my trust is without borders

Oh, Lord
You're beautiful
Your face is all I seek

Open the eyes
Of my heart, Lord
Open the eyes
Of my heart

I love You Lord
And I lift my voice
To worship You

What are your favorite songs sung in church? Think about the lyrics and decide whether it's a prayer sung to God or if it's a song about God or godly things.

If it's not a prayer, what is the great thing the song declares? For example, if you look at the three examples at the start of this post, you'll see they're about Jesus' shed blood for forgiveness, His presence and His grace. Thank God in prayer for whatever your favorite songs declare.

Here are some verses from Psalms that are also prayers.
